Test drive: 2013 Cadillac ATS

Thursday July 26, 2012
2013 Cadillac ATS
This is another review that I took my sweet time writing -- probably too much, but I wanted to cast the 2013 Cadillac ATS in just the right light, since it's such a significant car. Personally, I think the ATS has what it takes to become contender -- but how many times have we said that about American cars in the past? Chec out my 2013 Cadillac ATS review to get the skinny on this car's style, pricing and driving characteristics, and then tell me what you think -- does BMW have anything to worry about? Or Mercedes? Or Lexus? Or Infiniti? -- Aaron Gold

Test drive: 2013 GMC Terrain Denali

Wednesday July 25, 2012
2013 GMC Terrain DenaliWhen Jason Fogelson asked me if I would attend the press preview of the 2013 GMC Terrain Denali -- that's the new gussied-up version of the Terrain -- for his About.com SUVs site, I figured my review would be a slam dunk... right into the crapper. While I like The General's small CUVs, I think the Terrain is one of the ugliest vehicles I've ever set eyes on. Then again, beauty, or the lack thereof, is supposedly skin deep... so did the Terrain Denali win me over? Find out in my 2013 GMC Terrain Denali review. -- Aaron Gold

First impressions: 2013 Cadillac ATS

Tuesday July 24, 2012
2013 Cadillac ATSAs I work on my review of the 2013 Cadillac ATS, I can't help but think of how many times my fellow journalists have said great things about American cars and then looked silly in retrospect. Read More...

ILX redux and looking back at the FR-S

Friday July 20, 2012
2013 Acura ILXTwo cars are off the ten latest reviews list this week -- the Acura ILX and the Scion FR-S.
Here's the irony on the ILX: I'm driving one this week. If you read my review, you know I didn't really like the car -- specifically, I thought it was too much money for too little anything. Acura, ever the optimists, actually invited me to spend a week with an ILX to see if a little more seat time changed my opinion. I'm not as optimistic as they are, although I'm trying my best to give the ILX a fair shake. It isn't easy, though -- my top-of-the-line tester (leather, sunroof, nav) lists for $32k, and all I can think about when I drive it is how many other cars can be had for that kind of money.
2013 Scion FR-SAlso off the list: The Scion FR-S. Now there's a car I'm dying to drive again! I haven't asked because the feeding frenzy of journalists who didn't attend the press preview is still going strong, but I plan to get some more seat time, my excuse being that I have to run it on the About.com Top Secret Curvy Test Road. There's irony here too: I expected the FR-S to be underpowered and overrated, but instead it's one of my favorite cars of the new year -- maybe my favorite ever. I still have the sense-memory of sliding that car sideways 'round the autocross -- and believe me, if I can get a car sideways and keep it under control, anyone can.
But I can't spend too much of my morning reminiscing... I have an Acura ILX to drive. Ugh. -- Aaron Gold
